Evangelization Workshops and Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Woods Among Upcoming Faith Offerings

SAGINAW — Below are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw:

WHAT: Jubilee Celebration of Religious Life
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. on April 23
WHERE: Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw
The following individuals will celebrate anniversaries: 75 years- Sister Bernardone Reining, OSC; 65 years- Sister Laurene Burns, OSC and Sister Lois Wozniak, RSM; 50 years- Sister Gail Addis, IHM, Sister Mary Lou Owczarzak, MSSp, Sister Beatrice Maria Plamondon, CSSF, and Sister Maxine Plamondon, OP.

WHAT: Bishop’s Ball
WHEN: Event opens with Sponsors Reception at 5:30 p.m., April 25
WHERE: Bishop’s Ball, Horizons Conference Center, 6200 State St., Saginaw
All are invited to attend the 2014 Bishop’s Ball. The annual event gathers together the local faith community to celebrate all that is done to continue the evangelizing mission of Jesus Christ. The Ball program includes the Bishop Murphy Award presentation, a silent auction, formal dinner, drawing of the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan’s BIG Raffle winners and live band. WHAT: Mass Honoring the Canonization of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II
WHEN: 10 a.m. on April 27
WHERE: Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw
Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXII will be canonized on this day in Rome. The Mass in Saginaw will celebrate the occasion. Bishop Cistone will preside.

 

WHAT: Sharing the Joy of the Gospel: Regional Evangelization Workshops
WHEN: Workshops are Offered on Four Different Dates April 30- to May 3
WHERE: Multiple Sites
The Diocese of Saginaw invites parish leaders, deacons, staff, council and commission members, volunteers, and interested parishioners to attend one of four regional workshops on strengthening evangelization in your parish. Father Frank DeSiano, President of Paulist Evangelization Ministries in Washington D.C. will be the guest presenter. He is a nation-wide speaker and noted writer in the area of evangelization, discipleship, and spirituality. This workshop is sponsored by the Office of the Bishop. The first workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 30 at the Center for Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw. The second workshop will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 1 at St. Cecilia Church, 106 E. Wheaton Ave., Clare. The third workshop will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 2 at St. Pancratius Church, 4292 Seeger St., Cass City. The final workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on May 3, at the Center for Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw. There is no charge for these events on any of the above dates. WHAT: Lay Ministry Formation Program Information Sessions
WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. on May 1 at St. Cecilia Church, 106 E. Wheaton Ave., Clare and also at 7 p.m. on May 2 at St. Pancratius Church, 4292 Seeger St., Cass City
Those interested in learning more about the diocesan Lay Ministry Formation Program and how to apply are invited to attend one of the above information sessions with Dr. Dan Osborn, Director of the Center for Ministry. The Lay Ministry Formation Program involves four years of learning, spiritual formation and pastoral practice. Each Lay Minister makes a multi-year commitment to ministry upon completion of formation.

WHAT: Eighth Grade Graduation Mass
WHEN: 10:30 a.m. on May 2
WHERE: Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw
All eighth grade students in the Diocese of Saginaw are invited to celebrate Mass with the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw

WHAT: Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone in Saginaw
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 7
WHERE: Sacred Heart Church, 311 Whitelam St., Bad Axe
Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has led a Holy Hour each month in parishes across the diocese. Bishop Cistone initiated the Holy Hours to prayerfully support the work of Planning Tomorrow’s Parishes, a grassroots planning process that aims to enhance the vibrancy of future parish life.

WHAT: Pilgrimage To The Shrine Of Our Lady Of The Woods/ Peregrinaje Al Santuario De Nuestra Señora Del Bosque
WHEN: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 10
WHERE: Shrine of Our Lady of the Woods in Mio, Mich. Bus will depart from the Diocesan Center For Ministry at 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
In honor of the month of Mary and mothers everywhere, the Office of Hispanic Ministry is sponsoring a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Woods in Mio, Mich. The cost of the pilgrimage is $30 per pilgrim which includes a round trip motor coach seat, sack lunch, and a donation to the shrine/parish. WHAT: Human Trafficking Awareness Day
WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 13
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
The Office of Christian Service is sponsoring a workshop on Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The cost of the workshop is $10 and includes lunch and materials.
