SAGINAW — With Christmas just weeks away, the weekend will likely be a big one for shopping. But, for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and spend some time celebrating the meaning of Christmas, a free Advent concert for families is happening at 5:00 p.m. this Sunday, December 11 at St. Christopher Parish in Bridgeport.

Internationally acclaimed Catholic music minister, Amanda Vernon, 24, will headline the pop/gospel concert. She will perform her own original music that includes new versions of traditional hymns. Many selections also will include the advent themes of waiting and preparing for Christ, and help listeners apply scripture to everyday life experiences.

“Taking time to pray and reflect during the Advent season will enrich Christmas and holiday celebrations,” Vernon said.

Vernon, who lives in Grand Rapids, grew up singing with her family and also in her parish. She released her first CD nine years ago, at age 15, and most recently performed at World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain.

The weekend concert is free and open to the public.
