SAGINAW — This fall, the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw will begin accepting applications for the Permanent Diaconate Program. A survey conducted last year to pastors and pastoral administrators showed a need and desire for more permanent deacons to be of assistance in the outreach and ministry of the local Church of Saginaw.

An informational session for all interested men — and their wives if married — will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26 at the diocesan Center for Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., in Saginaw. The diocese will accept applications for admission into the Permanent Diaconate Program between September 27 and October 15 of this year.

Interested applicants should have completed two years of the Lay Ministry Program by the spring of 2014. Joan LaPointe, Coordinator of Lay Ministry, oversees the application process for the Lay Ministry Program. Those interested in beginning the Lay Ministry Program this September should contact Joan immediately at 989.797.6609.

The Rev. T.J. Fleming, Director of Deacon Formation, recently shared an update on the Permanent Diaconate Program. To view his letter click here.

Applications will be made available at the upcoming informational session on September 26.  Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling the Center for Ministry at 989.797.6607. Additional questions may be directed to Dr. Dan Osborn, Director of the Center for Ministry, by calling this same number.
