SAGINAW — Beginning this August, the Diocese of Saginaw will offer training for adults in a special Montessori-style approach to religious formation which originated in Rome and is now used in 37 countries. This course is expected to draw attendees from outside of the diocese and some of the parishes within the diocese are already familiar with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level I Formation Course aims to train leaders to foster discipleship. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was founded more than five decades ago by Scripture scholar Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi. This approach respects a child’s natural inclination toward a loving relationship with God.
This course offered at the Center for Ministry will help catechists to explore the religious nature and most vital religious needs of the three to six year old child, while presenting the methodology and guiding principles of the approach. Participants will also be offered guidelines and assistance in preparing the proper environment and materials for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
The beginning training course will take place at the diocesan Center for Ministry, 5802 Weiss St. in Saginaw, from Aug, 10 through 17, 2014, concluding with two sessions on Sept. 27 and Oct. 11, 2014. Rose Yagiela will be the Formation Team Leader. She is currently in the Master of Religious Education program at Assumption University in Windsor, Ontario, and is a recognized formation leader by the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
The registration deadline is July 18, 2014. Space is limited. There is a cost associated with meals and overnight lodging is available. More information is available by contacting the Office of Formation at 989.797.6654.
