Reverend John H. Weis Jr., a priest of the Diocese of Paterson, died on April 22, 2015. Father Weis was born on Jan. 28, 1940 in Jersey City, N.J. to the late John H. Sr. and Sadie Weis. He received his high school education at St. Mary High School in Rutherford, N.J. Father Weis continued his priestly formation at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. , where he studied philosophy. He studied theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, N.J. and was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1966 by the Most Reverend Lawrence B. Casey, the fifth Bishop of Paterson at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson, N.J. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves on active duty from 1980 to 1989.
Father Weis began serving in the Diocese of Saginaw in 1991. During his 23 years in the Diocese he served at the following parishes: St. Brigid of Kildare, Midland; St. Norbert, Munger; St. Roch, Caseville; St. Cecilia, Clare; St. Cyril, Bannister; St. Joseph, Rapson; Most Holy Trinity, Smith Corners; Holy Family, Sebewaing; St. Francis Borgia, Pigeon; and St. Agatha, Gagetown. He attained senior priest status in 2014.
The funeral Mass for Father Weis will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 at Our Lady Consolata Parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, 8370 Unionville Road, Sebewaing, MI. The Most Reverend Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, will preside.
