Funeral Mass today for Priest who Served in the Diocese of Saginaw for 20 years and Worked with the Poor in Haiti

SAGINAW — Many members of the Diocese of Saginaw’s faith community traveled to Toledo, Ohio, today for the funeral Mass of Father Thomas Moore, O.S.F.S. Father Moore, a member of the religious order the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, ministered to the people of the Diocese of Saginaw for 20 years before following a call to travel to Haiti to help with the formation of young Haitians interested in joining the oblates in 2008. He was serving in Haiti at the time of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that devastated the island in 2010.

Father Moore arrived in Saginaw in 1988 and spent the next 20 years serving in a number of capacities including Director of Seminarians and Vocations, Sacramental Minister and Chaplain for Hispanic Ministries, and Chaplain for St. Mary’s of Michigan. He was a sacramental minister at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption and Ss. Casimir & George in Saginaw. He also served as a member of a pastoral team for Ss. Simon & Jude, Saginaw; Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bridgeport; St. Christopher, Bridgeport; and Sacred Heart, Birch Run.
