Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone and Pilgrimage to Italy Among Upcoming Faith Offerings

SAGINAW — Below are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw.

WHAT: Catholic Women’s Fellowship
WHEN: 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
Meeting the first Wednesday of every month, women from around the diocese are invited to gather at the Center for Ministry for prayer, faith formation, discussion, and fellowship. The talk during this meeting will be given by Father Prentice Tipton, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Clare. For more information, visit: www.womensfellowship.org.

WHAT: Lay Ministry Commitment Ceremony
WHEN: 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11
WHERE: Blessed Sacrament Church, 3109 Swede Ave., Midland
All are invited to join the second year lay ministry candidates as they affirm and celebrate their call to ministry in the name of Jesus Christ. These candidates have completed two years of the four year Lay Ministry formation process and are publicly and formally stating their commitment to a more deliberate way of answering their baptismal call to follow Jesus. Each candidate will be introduced by a companion who has witnessed their developing discipleship and will then commit to the cross as they continue on their journey to serve God’s people. The Lay Ministry Formation Program is a four-year formation experience designed for lay people who wish to expand their knowledge of Scripture and Catholic theology, deepen their relationship with God, and fulfill their baptismal call by serving others. WHAT: Theology on Tap - Presented by Local Catholic Parishes
WHEN: 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 12
WHERE: Trillium Banquet Center, 6415 State St., Saginaw
Theology on Tap is an opportunity for adults to explore issues and topics that relate to the Catholic faith in a fun, relaxed, setting. Several area priests and religious will be in attendance. Cash bar and pizza are available. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend. Donations are accepted to help cover the cost of the pizza.

WHAT: Introduction to Christian Initiation: An Overview of the RCIA
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
All who are involved with leading Christian initiation or the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), or are considering it, are invited to join Father Jim Bessert and the Diocesan RCIA Steering Committee for a day to explore essential elements of Christian initiation and, in particular, the RCIA (as well as adaptations of the RCIA and the varied issues that arise connected with the Baptism of infants and/or children). WHAT: Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone in Pigeon
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 19
WHERE: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, St. Francis Borgia Church, 25 Moeller St., Pigeon
Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has traveled to different churches throughout the diocese to lead Holy Hours before the Blessed Sacrament. During this Jubilee Year, the intention of each monthly Holy Hour will be for a deeper understanding and participation in the Mercy of God.

WHAT: Gathering of Catholic Singles Over 50- St. John Vianney Parish
WHEN: 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 22
WHERE: St. John Vianney Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw
All are invited to a gathering after Mass for singles over 50 years of age. The gathering is an opportunity to socialize. $2 per person is requested. Those with questions may call 989.790.5086. Please bring a snack to share and playing cards if possible.

WHAT: Spaces Available for Jubilee Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Italy with Bishop Joseph Cistone and Father Richard Jozwiak
WHEN: Oct 23, 2016 to Nov. 1, 2016
WHERE: Various Cities, Italy
A few spaces are available for the Oct. 23 through November 1 (2016) Pilgrimage to Venice, Padua, Siena, Assisi, and Rome. The Pilgrimage includes daily Mass at several locations of religious and historical significance, including St. Peter’s Basilica. A Papal Audience (pending the Holy Father’s schedule), an opportunity to go through the Holy Doors and excursions to the Colosseum and Sistine Chapel are just a few of the many events planned. WHAT: Lay Ministry Formation Program Deadline is May 15
WHEN: Formation Program Begins September 2016
From now until May 15, the diocesan lay ministry office will be accepting applications for those who wish to begin the Lay Ministry Formation Program in September 2016. The program is a four-year formation experience designed for lay people who wish to expand their knowledge of Scripture and Catholic theology, deepen their relationship with God, and fulfill their baptismal call by serving others. The formation process is completed with the endorsement of the home parish, so it is necessary to speak to your pastor/pastoral administrator.
