Mass of Remembrance and A Divorce Healing Program Among Upcoming Faith Offerings

SAGINAW — The following are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw. All are invited to participate.

WHAT: Information Evening for those Seeking to Apply for the
Permanent Deacon Formation Program
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
Once every four years, the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw accepts applications from those who feel called to serve as permanent deacons. The diocese will hold an informational session for all interested men — and their wives if married. Application forms for admission into the Permanent Diaconate Program will be made available at this session.

Interested applicants should plan to have completed at least two years of lay ministry formation by May of 2017 (unless they hold a degree in theology or the equivalent). Completed applications will then be accepted until Nov. 15 of this year. WHAT: Permanent Deacon Jubilee Mass with Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12
WHERE: Holy Spirit Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Saginaw
All are welcome as permanent deacons of the Diocese of Saginaw celebrate their jubilees, with Bishop Cistone presiding at Mass. Permanent deacons are ordained in the sacrament of Holy Orders to a threefold ministry of service in Charity, Word, and Liturgy.

WHAT: Catholic Divorce Healing Program
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 12; runs through February 2017
WHERE: St. Agnes Church, 300 Johnson St., Freeland
This is an 11-week DVD based program designed to offer comfort and counsel consistent with Catholic teachings to men and women who have suffered through divorce. Each session features a thirty minute DVD presentation covering topics of shock, denial, anger, grief, guilt, forgiveness, money, the courts, the kids, the ex-spouse, annulment, dating, sexuality, spirituality, remarriage or staying single, and much more. Open to anyone who needs comfort, counsel and clarity after a divorce. WHAT: Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone in Au Gres
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13
WHERE: St. Mark Church, 415 S. Court St., Au Gres
Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has traveled to different churches throughout the diocese to lead Holy Hours before the Blessed Sacrament. During this Jubilee Year, the intention of each monthly Holy Hour will be for a deeper understanding and participation in the Mercy of God.

 

WHAT: “Let the Little Children Come to Me:” Mass of Remembrance for the Unborn with Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18
WHERE: Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, St. Hyacinth Church, 1515 Cass Ave., Bay City
Bishop Cistone will celebrate a special Mass in remembrance of babies who have died in their mother’s womb, and to pray for parents and families who have suffered the pain of miscarriage and stillbirth. All are welcome.
