Mass of Remembrance for the Unborn and Marriage Event with Bishop Cistone among Upcoming Faith Offerings

Please note: At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, a Respect Life Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw. All are welcome to attend this Mass which celebrates LIFE from the moment of conception to natural death. This is also an opportunity to gratefully acknowledge the efforts of those committed to the protection and respect of human life and dignity. The presider of the Mass will be the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw.

SAGINAW — Below are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw. Parishes are invited to include these events in their parish bulletins.

WHAT: “Let the Little Children Come to Me:” Mass of Remembrance for the Unborn with Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20
WHERE: St. John Vianney Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw
Bishop Cistone will celebrate a special Mass in remembrance of babies who have died in their mother’s womb, and to pray for parents and families who have suffered the pain of miscarriage and stillbirth. All are welcome.

WHAT: Monthly Catholic Men’s Fellowship
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21 and the third Wednesday of each month through May, except for December
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
Men from around the diocese are invited to gather once a month at the Center for Ministry for worship, prayer, education, discussion, and fellowship. The theme for the Wednesday, Oct. 21 meeting is "Evangelization and the Family" with Father Andy LaFramboise. No cost (freewill offering). For information, visit www.thecatholicmen.com

WHAT: Vocation, Sacrament and Mission: The Beauty of Marriage with Bishop Cistone, Father Christian Tabares, Sister Mary Rachel Nerbun, RSM, MD, Dr. Toby Long, Linda and Larry Milco
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
In 2014, the Catholic bishops of Michigan declared 2014-15 to be a “Year for Marriage” throughout our state. Join Bishop Cistone and other dynamic presenters for a special day to explore the beauty of the vocation and sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Everyone – whether married, engaged, widowed or single – is warmly welcome to attend this enrichment opportunity on a topic that is more timely than ever. Bishop Cistone will begin the day by celebrating Mass. Presentations include,“Theology of the Body and the Vocation of Marriage” and “Joyful Witness: The Francis Effect, Family Life and Mission in Christ's Way.” Cost includes lunch and is $20 per married couple or engaged couple or $15 per individual. WHAT: Catholic’s Divorce Healing Program Information Session
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27
WHERE: Corpus Christi Parish, St. Hedwig Church Social Hall, 1504 S. Kiesel St., Bay City
This is a 12-week DVD-based program designed to offer comfort and counsel consistent with Catholic teachings to men and women who have suffered through divorce. An information meeting will be held at the Oct. 27 meeting. Those in attendance will learn more about the program, see a preview of a DVD segment, and meet the facilitators. There is a $16 fee to cover the cost of the participant guide book and materials. The 12-week series will begin Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Corpus Christi Parish, St. Hedwig Church and meet twice a month through May 3, 2016. WHAT: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Close of the Second Vatican
Council: A Look at Three Key Documents with Father Bill Taylor, Father Jim Heller and MariAnn Saenen
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
In 1965, Vatican II came to a close with a flurry of documents that would impact the life of the Church in a profound way. Please join Father Bill Taylor, Father Jim Heller, and MariAnn Saenen for an interactive morning that will look at three of these documents: Dei Verbum (on divine revelation); Apostolicam Actuositatem (on the apostolate of lay people); and Nostra Aetate (on relations of the Church with non Christian religions). Father Taylor is a senior priest of the Diocese of Saginaw and a long-time instructor in the diocesan Lay Ministry Formation Program. Father Heller is also a senior priest who previously served as Vicar General of the diocese. MariAnn Saenen is a lay minister (permanent status) who has studied at the Ratisbonne Pontifical Institute in Jerusalem. The deadline to register is Saturday, Oct. 24.
