SAGINAW — Continuing tomorrow, visitors to St. Patrick Cemetery in Bay City will notice work being done on the four bronze statues on the cemetery grounds. A repair team from Matthews Bronze Co., an international company based in Pittsburgh, Penn., will be on site refinishing the large statues of Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, Saint Stanislaus and a kneeling angel. The company, which produced the statues, is under no obligation to make the repairs, but is doing so in the name of goodwill.
The diocese is very grateful to Matthews for the refinishing work being done to return the beautiful statues to their original splendor. Families also will be pleased to see the results of these goodwill efforts on the improved appearance of the sacred grounds.
The four statues have been flaking and are discolored. The repair team arrived Monday, June 6, and expects to continue work on Wednesday, June 8 (weather permitting).
As announced last summer, the Diocese of Saginaw signed a management services contract with Catholic Management Services (CMS), a nonprofit organization specializing in providing strategic business planning and professional services to revitalize cemetery operations. One area that Director of Cemeteries Kim Gossman has been focusing on is the beautification of cemeteries across the Diocese of Saginaw.
