SAGINAW — If you are feeling a little bit like Charlie Brown, looking for the real meaning of Christmas amid the commercialism that begins earlier each year, the Diocese of Saginaw’s Center for Ministry is offering an Advent weekend retreat for you. The retreat, “Blessed Not Stressed,” takes place the first weekend of December, beginning with registration at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and concluding at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 4.
“Before the holiday rush hits full force, this retreat will provide a time of intimacy with the Lord in preparation for Christmas,” comments one of the leaders of the retreat, Dr. Dan Osborn, Director of the Center for Ministry. “All are invited to come and experience joyful fellowship, inspirational reflections and scripture meditations, hymns of the season, the beauty of holy icons, and grace-filled moments of prayer.”
This music-filled retreat will be led by Catholic recording artist, Jenny Klement, along with Dr. Osborn and his wife, LeAnne, who both have advanced degrees in theology. The Osborns moved to Saginaw in June, bringing a combined 35 years of Faith Formation and retreat experience to the diocese.
“As the season of Advent begins, the Lord calls us to let go of the stress of Christmas preparations, and prepare our hearts instead,” Klement said. “This retreat will help all who take part to discover the countless blessings the Lord has in store for them.”
Dr. Dan Osborn is the Director of the Center for Ministry for the Diocese of Saginaw. He received his doctorate in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (“the Angelicum”) in Rome after a decade of international lay missionary work. With his background in theology, literature, and the arts, and his 20 years of experience as a retreat leader, Dr. Osborn is committed to fostering an appreciation of the beauty of the Catholic Faith.
Leanne Osborn holds a Master’s degree in Systematic Theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, and is a gifted retreat leader, speaker, and educator. She is certified as a leader of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.
Jenny Klement graduated from Franciscan University with a degree in Theology, and has led retreats and performed her music throughout the United States. A singer and songwriter whose music has been featured on national television, she has released two music CDs entitled "Reflection" and "Grace is Falling."
