New Parish Names Announced in 39 Parishes

SAGINAW — Members of the 39 parishes that will merge this July 1, 2013 learned during weekend Masses Saturday and Sunday the name of their new parish. Each parish submitted a list of three proposed new parish names to the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, in April. In many cases the names were voted on by parishioners and Bishop Cistone attempted to grant the top name choice as often as possible.

The following is a list of all new parish names. The name in bold at the top is the name of the newly restructured parish community. Included below the new name is a list of all parishes that are joining together in the merger.

 Ubly Area- Good Shepherd Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. John The Evangelist Church, Ubly
• St. Ignatius Church, Frieburg
• St. Columbkille Church, Sheridan Corners
• St. Joseph Church, Argyle

Bad Axe Area- St. Hubert Parish is the New Parish Name
• Sacred Heart Church, Bad Axe
• St. Joseph Church, Rapson
• Most Holy Trinity Church, Smith Corners

Kinde Area- Annunciation of the Lord Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Michael Church, Port Austin
• St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Kinde
• St. Edward the Confessor Church, Kinde

Caseville Area- Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Roch Church, Caseville
• St. Francis Borgia Church, Pigeon
• St. Felix of Valois Church, Pinnebog

Lexington Area- Ave Maria Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Denis Church, Lexington
• St. Mary Church, Port Sanilac
• St. Patrick Church, Croswell

Sandusky Area- Holy Family Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Joseph Church, Sandusky
• St. Elizabeth Church, Marlette
• St. John the Evangelist Church, Peck

Harbor Beach Area- Holy Name of Mary Parish is the New Parish Name
• Our Lady Of Lake Huron Church, Harbor Beach
• St. Anthony of Padua Church, Helena

Ruth Area- Holy Apostles Parish is the New Parish Name
• SS. Peter & Paul Church, Ruth
• St. John Chrysostom Church (seasonal), Forestville

Parisville Area- St. Isidore Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Mary Church, Parisville
• St. Patrick Church, Palms

Birch Run/Bridgeport Area- Ss. Francis and Clare Parish is the New Parish Name
• Sacred Heart Church,  Birch Run
• Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Bridgeport

Saginaw - St. Francis of Assisi Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Anthony of Padua Church, Saginaw
• St. Casimir Church, Saginaw
• St. George Church, Saginaw

Sanford Area- Our Lady of Grace Parish is the New Parish Name
• St. Agnes Church, Sanford
• St. Anne Church, Edenville
• St. Philip Neri Church, Coleman

St. Charles Area- Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish is the New Parish Name
• Immaculate Conception Church, St. Charles
• St. Mary Church , Albee

Chesaning Area- St. Peter Parish is the New Parish Name
• Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Church, Chesaning
• St. Michael Church, Oakley

Alma Area- Nativity of the Lord is the New Parish Name
• St. Mary Church, Alma
• Mount Saint Joseph Church, St. Louis

The following two new parish communities will maintain the parish name while incorporating a mission church this July 1:

Ithaca Area: St. Paul the Apostle Parish
• St. Paul the Apostle Church, Ithaca
• St. Martin de Porres Church, Perrinton  

Shepherd Area: St. Vincent de Paul Parish
• St. Vincent de Paul Church, Shepherd
• St. Leo the Great Church, Winn
