John Hoving: “It is an Exciting Time to be Part of Nouvel Catholic Central High School.”
Saginaw — Diocesan Superintendent of Catholic Schools Mary Ann Deschaine today announced that John Hoving will serve as the new principal at Nouvel Catholic Central High School in Saginaw. He will begin his duties on July 1.
“John has a vision for developing the next generation of faith-filled Catholic leaders and he will continue to foster and strengthen a strong Catholic academic culture at Nouvel,” Deschaine said. “In addition, he hopes to increase opportunities for prayer, worship and service outreach at the high school, while introducing advanced learning and instruction practices.”
Hoving earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2006 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University in 2002. Since 2007, he has served as a principal for Bay Area Catholic Schools, first at Holy Family Middle School and then All Saints Central Middle and High School. Prior to that, he spent five years in the classroom teaching science for Midland Public Schools.
Hoving says chief among his priorities will be to ensure that the curriculum at Nouvel remains both rigorous and relevant to meet the needs of an ever-changing world.
“We can no longer hold the status quo in education, and expect our students to compete in the workforce of tomorrow,” Hoving said. “We need to educate bold leaders, inspired by the light of the Gospels.”
The search for a principal at Nouvel Catholic Central began in February after Irene Hensinger announced her retirement. During her three years as Saginaw Area Catholic Schools Regional Superintendent and Nouvel Principal, Hensinger helped to strengthen faith formation, while setting a comprehensive curriculum in place, enhancing the art program and expanding services to meet the needs of gifted students.
Hensinger also oversaw a multi-million dollar school renovation project at Nouvel Catholic Central last summer that included the creation of state-of-the-art learning spaces and laboratories.
“I am excited to build upon the momentum that Irene has set in place; it is an exciting time to be part of Nouvel Catholic Central High School,” Hoving said.
Hoving is a resident of Midland and member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, where he serves as a youth catechist. He and his wife lead many workshops for the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw at the diocesan Center for Ministry. They have five children.
The Saginaw Area Catholic School system, which includes two elementary/middle schools and Nouvel Catholic Central High School, is home to more than 1,100 students. School leaders, teachers and staff are committed to excellence in faith formation, academics, athletics, the arts and community service.
