legacy-of-faithSAGINAW — Students, faculty and staff of Nouvel Catholic Central High School in Saginaw are settling into their newly renovated school building, but this Sunday it is the community’s turn to experience the difference of the $3.1 million upgrade.

Under a tent on the Nouvel campus, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, will lead a prayer service that includes the rededication and blessing of the school. Following the service, the Nouvel Honor Guard, carrying the school’s Spirit Cross, will lead a procession to the front doors of the high school. Bishop Cistone will bless the doors and once inside process through the school blessing each classroom.

Over the summer, construction crews were busy remodeling and rewiring Nouvel with state-of-the-art learning spaces and laboratories, upgrading existing classrooms and removing the school’s temporary annex building.

The enhancements were made possible through a local donor-driven major gifts campaign to the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan, and the project was announced in May by Bishop Cistone.

The Legacy of Faith campaign began in June 2008 with a feasibility study to identify priority needs. Campaign co-chairs helped to secure funds for phase one of school projects at both Nouvel and All Saints Central Middle and High School in Bay City. Teachers and school staff were among the first to provide financial support. The projects were identified and fully funded through the generosity of local benefactors within the Bay and Saginaw communities. Both projects employed area contractors and were designed with environmentally friendly building practices and materials.

Irene Hensinger, Nouvel principal, Mary Ann Deschaine, Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, and Jim Wolohan, Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan, will join Bishop Cistone in welcoming several hundred guests, including benefactors, Nouvel faculty, staff, students and parents, Saginaw Area Catholic School students and parents and local dignitaries.

There are 343 students attending Nouvel Catholic Central High School.
