The safety and well-being of students is of the utmost concern to Catholic school leaders across the Diocese of Saginaw.

In recent months, the pastor and school administrator at St. Thomas Aquinas School were contacted by police about a complaint against Mr. Gary Moreland regarding an allegation of misconduct that occurred several years ago. Mr. Moreland was a former athletic director and coach at the school. A decision was immediately made by the pastor and school administrator that Mr. Moreland, who was currently operating the concession stand during sporting events on campus, would not be allowed on school property until the matter was resolved.

The news last week of criminal sexual conduct charges issued against Mr. Moreland is serious and sobering. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Saginaw Township Police.

All Catholic school employees, as well as those school volunteers who have regular contact with children, must fulfill the Safe Environment requirements for the Diocese of Saginaw. The program trains staff and volunteers regarding the proper procedures necessary to keep children and youth safe. The program requirements can be found on the diocesan website by clicking here.
