World Marriage Day Mass with Bishop Cistone and ‘Afternoon Tea’ Among Upcoming Faith Offerings

SAGINAW — Below are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw:

WHAT: Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone in Bay City
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3
WHERE: Corpus Christi Parish, St. Hedwig Church, 1504 S. Kiesel St., Bay City
Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has led a Holy Hour each month in parishes across the diocese. Bishop Cistone initiated the Holy Hours to prayerfully support the work of Planning Tomorrow’s Parishes, a grassroots planning process that aims to enhance the vibrancy of future parish life.

WHAT: “Feed the Fire” Mass with Bishop Cistone in Beal City
WHEN: 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7
WHERE: St. Joseph the Worker Church, 2163 N. Winn Rd., Beal City
Bishop Cistone celebrates “Feed the Fire” Masses to bring together youth from around the diocese. These Masses are planned for youth and their families and include upbeat praise and worship music. Following Mass, those in attendance have an opportunity to share dinner with Bishop Cistone, and there is additional time for prayer.

WHAT: World Marriage Day Mass with Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8
WHERE: St. Brigid of Kildaire Church, 207 Ashman St., Midland
Please join the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, at a special Mass to celebrate World Marriage Day. All married couples and their families are invited. Those celebrating a significant anniversary will be recognized. Mass will be followed by a cake and beverage reception. WHAT: “Know Your Faith” with Father J. Marcel Portelli and Frank Borja
WHEN: 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. for Ten Sundays Beginning on Sunday, Feb. 8
WHERE: St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw
The more that you know about your Catholic faith, the more you will embrace it and will want to share it. You are invited to participate in a Symbolon course facilitated by Father J. Marcel Portelli and Frank Borja. This 10-session catechesis course for adults will take you through the Creed, the statement of beliefs that Catholics all around the world profess at Mass. Enhanced by videos shot in Rome, the Holy Land, Calcutta, and in the Augustine Institute studios, Symbolon is not just an intellectual understanding of Catholicism. It is about a journey of faith, discovery, and friendship with Christ that will make a lasting impression on our lives. All are welcome. WHAT: “Living in Love” Marriage Enrichment Retreat
WHEN: 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
This is a two-day retreat for married couples. It is intended to energize the romance and renew the excitement of being in love. Local couples, with the aid of PMRC (Pastoral Matrimonial Renewal Center), will present talks and facilitate the weekend; a delicious romantic dinner is included. There is much fun and laughter expected during this very inspirational and graced experience. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning by Bishop Cistone and Sunday morning by Father Andy LaFramboise. The cost is $149 per couple (commuter) and $189 per couple (overnight stay). WHAT: Ash Wednesday Mass with Bishop Cistone
WHEN: Noon on Wednesday, Feb. 18
WHERE: Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw
The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw. In the Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.

WHAT: Lenten Mini-Retreat: Passover of the Lord with Father Andy Booms
WHEN: 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28
WHERE: Diocesan Center For Ministry, 5802 Weiss St., Saginaw
This retreat will focus on the three most sacred days of the liturgical year (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday) by looking carefully at the prayers and traditions of each liturgy. As we travel on our Lenten journey, may it be a special time of grace when we experience the saving
power of the Passion of the Lord. Come for prayer ... come for insight ...come to surrender to God's will. The cost is $55 for commuters (includes reception and lunch) and $95 for lodgers (includes reception, breakfast and lunch).

WHAT: “Afternoon Tea" Gathering At St. John Vianney Church, Saginaw
WHEN: 3 p.m. Every Second Thursday of the Month
WHERE: St. John Vianney Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw
“Afternoon Tea at Three” is a relaxed informal gathering for prayer, a short presentation, and conversation. All are welcome. Those with further questions may call 989-790-5086.
