Catholic Campaign For Human Development |
|
Catholic Campaign for Human Development is a domestic anti-poverty, social justice program sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Bishops. The Campaign puts the gospel and ur Catholic Social Teachings into action by:
- Funding community-controlled, self-help and economic development projects that attack the root causes of poverty and empower citizens to address poverty and injustice
- Sponsoring educational projects like Education for Solidarity, Journey to Justice Retreats, and co-sponsor Public Discipleship
Some funded projects include:
- SAGINAW FAMILY CHILD CARE NETWORK trains women to do child care; gives low income women an opportunity through Individual Development Accounts to save money for setting up a small business, purchasing a home, or continuing their education.
- NEW ALTERNATIVE YOUTH SERVICE gives 60 at-risk Saginaw youth an opportunity to stay in school, stay away from gangs, violence, drugs, and prevent pregnancy.
- EZEKIEL is an inter-denominational church-based community-organizing project, which works on addressing delinquency, youth, prescription drugs and metro-equity issues.
- GATEWAY FARMER'S MARKET COOP, INC. is a local group of small farmers and Amish farmers who set up a cooperative to sell their produce and crafts in Clare County.
