The Mother Teresa Endowment Fund was established by the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw to provide financial assistance to individuals or couples experiencing limited financial resources while awaiting the birth of their child and/or during the initial period following the birth.
Catholic Family Services provides free pregnancy counseling and will work with the birth parents to determine if they wish to parent or place the baby for adoption. Professional, licensed counselors are available throughout the Diocese in local office and parishes. Through the counseling process community resources are identified and birth parents assisted in how to obtain these resources. The Mother Teresa Endowment Fund provides the financial bridge to assist with costs.
The Mother Teresa Endowment Fund may assist with costs not covered by other resources, such as, prenatal clinic costs, hospital and birthing expenses not covered by insurance or Medicaid, temporary rent, phone, and utility payments for the birth mother while she is out of work, maternity clothes and other basic needs.
Individuals seeking assistance through the Mother Teresa Endowment Fund complete an application obtained from the Respect Life Office. Copies of invoices or bills for which assistance is requested are attached to the application. No dollars are given directly to an applicant. A special committee reviews the applications and determines the amount of assistance based upon need and the availability of dollars.
The Mother Teresa Endowment Fund has been established through the generous gifts of many individuals to support LIFE. The dollars contributed are invested and the interest generated provides revenue for the assistance. These gift dollars keep working in perpetuity to promote and support new life. Donations to the Mother Teresa Endowment Fund are welcomed at any time and are tax-deductible. They may be sent to the Respect Life Office. The funds are monitored through the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan.
