Eighth Graders Celebrate Year-End Mass

As the school year draws to a close, eighth grade students from across the diocese gathered at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw for the annual Eighth Grade Celebration Mass.

Father Bill Rutkowski preachesFr. Bill Rutkowski, vicar general, celebrated the Mass on Friday, May 3. Priests from some of the Catholic schools represented concelebrated:  Fr. Andy Booms, St. Brigid of Kildare in Midland; Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera, All Saints Central in Bay City; Fr. George Amos, Our Lake of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach; Fr. Christian Tabares, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Reese and Fr. Loren Kalinowski, Sacred Heard Academy in Mount Pleasant.

In addition to those schools, students from Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary, Saginaw, and St. Michael School, Pinconning, joined the Mass.

During his homily, Fr. Bill encouraged the soon-to-be graduates to always remember their faith in Jesus. He suggested using a small physical reminder, such as a crucifix or note on their mirror, to help them begin each day recalling their faith.
