The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office has determined that the death of Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell was a homicide, according to a statement released by Archbishop José Gomez.
Archbishop Gomez also shared:
"We are deeply disturbed and saddened by this news.
"Let us continue to pray for Bishop Dave and his family. And let us pray for law enforcement officials as they continue their investigation into this terrible crime.
"We ask Our Blessed Mother Mary to intercede and be a mother for all of us in this moment of sadness and pain."
Upon hearing what happened, Bishop Robert Gruss extended his prayerful support to those impacted.
"This is a tragic situation," Bishop Gruss said. "My sympathy and prayers go out to Bishop O'Connell's family, Archbishop José Gomez and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. May Bishop O'Connell rest in the peace of Christ."
