SAGINAW- Sixth graders at Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School in Saginaw spent part of a joyous St. Valentine's Day making blankets for Project Linus, an organization that donates blankets to children in hospitals and shelters or may otherwise be in need. "They're for any child who needs a warm hug," said Carol Lewis, one of the classroom mothers.

She and Cheryl Golsen-Milka wanted students to participate in a service project as part of the grade's St. Valentine's Day party at school as a way of "sharing love," Lewis said. Using funds from the class's budget set aside for the Halloween and St. Valentine's Day parties, they purchased 17 tie blanket kits and ice cream, calling the celebration "Service and Sundaes." The students cut two pieces of fleece and tied them together to create the blankets. Once completed, the blankets will be donated to Project Linus and given to children around the Tri-City area.
