Poverty

"I want a Church which is poor and for the poor." -Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium

Do you know that nearly 40 percent of children in Clare County live in poverty? Poverty rates vary among the 11 counties of our diocese, but just as in other areas of the country, many people are not aware of the prevalence of poverty at home.

Our parishes are very active in reaching out and offering assistance to the poor of our diocese through food pantries, free meals, clothing donations and much more. We assist our parishes in their efforts by creating awareness. One of our most well known programs is a week-long immersion experience for high school students called Youth Encounter Service (Y.E.S.)
